Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris

The Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris (FSMP) is a network of excellence that federates the main laboratories of mathematics and fundamental computer science in central and northern Paris.

It is the largest concentration of mathematicians in the world. Its scientific spectrum encompasses all mathematics, from pure mathematics to the most applied, including fundamental computer science.

The FSMP

  • Proposes and funds programs for research and training in mathematics and fundamental computer science
  • Organizes scientific events
  • Works to disseminate mathematics to the media, the general public, the economic and industrial world.

Councils

The FSMP is administered by a Board of Directors (CA).

  • The CA comprises a Chairman/Chairwoman, representatives of its founding members, as well as external scientific figures from academia, the business world, and local authorities.
  • The CA meets at least twice a year and adjusts the frequency of its meetings to respond effectively to priorities and challenges.

The FSMP is structured around a Steering Committee (CoPil), whose role is to coordinate the scientific activities of the network.

  • The CoPil is composed of the Foundation's director and two deputy directors, the heads of the PGSM (Paris Graduate School of Mathematical Science) program, and six scientists belonging to the network of laboratories representing its scientific spectrum.
  • The CoPil is part of the postdoctoral program jury.
  • The CoPil evaluates program applications regularly throughout the year: Visiting Professors, Doctoral Fellowships, Master's Internships outside the Ile-de-France region, Childcare, Stays at the Ali Nesin Mathematics Village.
  • It meets twice a year in person and communicates regularly to ensure continuous evaluation of applications.

The FSMP also relies on a Scientific Council (CS), whose mission is to provide any recommendations deemed useful for the national, European, and international development of the Foundation.

  • The CS is composed of a Chairman/Chairwoman and leading figures from the academic world, both French and foreign, from outside its network of laboratories, as well as the Foundation's directors.
  • The CS is part of the jury for the Chairs of Excellence program and the postdoctoral program.
  • The CS meets twice a year.
